A report for the Research Newsletter from interim Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer Kurt Schnier:
This week our accounting team completed our campus’s fiscal close and we have submitted our financials to UCOP. I commend the team for their efforts and appreciate the many late nights they put in to complete this process. Considering the additional work required this year, as a result of the efforts of the Oracle Data Integrity Project to clean up the campus’s financial data, this was a very time-consuming year for them. Please thank them the next time you work with our team.
Our colleagues in Financial Planning and Analysis are reconciling the budget side of the fiscal close, a process required to align our budgets following the finalization of our actuals (a.k.a., fiscal close). They have been working very hard on this process, and we hope to have that work completed and roll the budget forward by the end of next week. Once this effort is complete, we will be focused on maintaining our data integrity throughout the fiscal year to ensure the data provided by the Oracle financial system to our users is consistent across all platforms.
We are hosting an Oracle Town Hall on 3-4 p.m. Oct. 10 to review some of the changes we have made to help ensure the university can better use our Oracle financial system, as well as to discuss the next steps for our team. We hope you will consider attending to help assist us with our future directions. We invite attendees to submit questions about Oracle via dofa@ucmerced.edu by Monday, Oct. 3.
