About Mike Riley

Interim Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer, University of California, Merced

Mike Riley serves as Interim Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer at the University of California, Merced. As the university’s chief financial officer Mike provides leadership for business, finance, human resources, enhanced analytical support, organizational efficiencies and strategic and business intelligence initiatives. He also oversees administrative and auxiliary services, including the Early Childhood Education Center, transportation and parking. In his role, Mike provides support to executive leadership regarding the strategic allocation and use of campus resources.

Mike joined the Merced campus in August 2013 as Interim Controller and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Business and Financial Services, and was named to the position permanently in May 2014. He has been with the University of California since January 2010. His contributions to our campus include leading our composite benefit rates implementation, working with our local implementation team and representing our campus on systemwide UCPath implementation committees, overseeing the annual fiscal close process, financial reporting for the UC Merced Foundation and leading our campus assessment for the replacement of our financial system. He also created the accounting model we use today for the construction component of the award-winning Merced 2020 Project, a $1.3 billion project that will add 1.2 million gross square feet to the campus footprint in less than four years.

Prior to joining the Merced campus Mike worked with the Office of the President and with the UC Davis campus. He holds a B.S. in Accounting and an active CPA license in the State of California.
